Voltaire in Capricorn
The Sharpened Pen in Capricorn

Voltaire is the small, sharp voice that makes powerful people furious. Where this asteroid sits is where you fight with wit instead of force — you are outmatched physically and you win anyway, in print, in public, in one sentence people repeat for years. You take up unpopular causes and cannot leave an injustice alone. The trap is that the same tongue that fights tyranny also wounds allies, and exile, professional or personal, keeps finding you.

In earth, you fight with documented facts and outlast the opposition.

In cardinal mode, you open the fight nobody else will start.

In Capricorn this point keeps score. Voltaire treats wit against power, and the exile it earns as something to be earned, so you do not accept it freely given and you do not quite believe it when it arrives early. Rest in this area registers as debt. The authority you carry here is real and it was expensive, and you rarely let anyone see the bill.

You are outmatched physically and you win anyway. One sentence, well aimed, does more damage than a campaign, and people repeat it for years. You cannot leave an injustice alone, and you will take up the unpopular side in public when everyone else goes quiet.

Filtered through Capricorn, that gift shows up as ambitious, disciplined, responsible — and it is most obvious to the people who watch you handle wit against power, and the exile it earns when you think nobody is measuring.

The same tongue that fights tyranny shreds your allies. You mistake being right for being effective, enjoy the fight more than the outcome, and keep finding yourself exiled — from a job, a scene, a family — with a very good explanation each time.

Capricorn adds its own version of the cost: emotional guardedness and workaholism that can starve a relationship of warmth. In this part of your chart that is not a personality quirk — it is the specific way Voltaire goes wrong for you, and it will keep repeating until you name it as yours instead of theirs.

Voltaire fires when someone powerful says something stupid in public and you already have the reply.

The work is aiming it. Keep the edge for the people who can defend themselves, and choose the fights that actually change something.
